Hi, my pug doesn’t mind doing roundabouts, but it doesn’t like turning left. When turning left I get a strange knocking noise. I’m no good at doing stuff myself, so can anyone recommend a mechanic to take a look/sort this for me, in or near to Wiltshire (Trowbridge) Cheers ________________________________________ 205 GTi6 |

Sounds like it could be a snapped coil spring. tickious wrote: I’m no good at doing stuff myself Have a look under your n/s wheel arch and see if the big metal thing that looks like a giant slinky is fully intact. If not, you need to replace it. Always replace them in axel pairs ie if it has snapped, you need to have both replaced. ________________________________________ ’00 Moonstone GTi6My Flickr Photostream |

And if it is that or something else, do you know and local Pug specialists? Brizzles not too far. My local guy doesn’t sound too enthusiastic about it as it’s got the wrong engine and “coil overs?” But besides that it’s all pretty standard, 1.9 gearbox, breaks etc. Cheers D ________________________________________ 205 GTi6 |

depends if you get a cheap shoddy one yourself or go to a pug dealer and have them fit one!________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Depends what has "gone" - park it with two wheels on a (nice quiet street) kerb and have a look. The likelihood is you'll need to pull the shaft out to tell if it has cactus splines or dud welds or some such. For this you'll need a jack or two, some bricks (or a proper axle stand) and some tools. Would strongly recommend NOT putting your head under the car with nothing but a jack holding the car up There are splines at both ends but check the wheel end first as you won't have to pull the shaft out. (My experience is with a '6 but should apply reasonably to a 205) |

Done both driveshafts on my 205 and its an easy job even with fairly limited spanner skills. You won't need a specialist and should only be a couple of hours labour at any garage. If it is worst on full lock it is most likely a driveshaft. Cheaper to replace the whole shaft in the long run. Should be about fifty quid for the part. |

We had two new driveshafts on our 106 recently at an independent garage, and the bill was somewhere around £250 with labour just to give you an idea...For peace of mind, and to make sure you solve your problem, it is probably worth changing both at the same time. |
