First of all, I bought a GTi-6 two months ago as used (with about 65000 miles), so I don't have experiences with this car.

My problem:
Fans of front radiator (cooler) are stopped all the time and it made me curious. Today I made a test with precious calibrated thermometer. I took it into the radiator (cooler) reservoir. Then I started the engine. Temperature went with my little help to 105 deg. C. But the fans were stopped all the time. Then I stopped the engine and fans done nothing. I started the engine again, and nothing new about the fans...

Please help me, what can be wrong or how I can decide what can be wrong? I guess about thermostat, or motors of fans, or some switch...

I can bring the car to the authorised service, but if I will know what to do or what exactly is wrong, it is much faster and cheaper.

Thank you for your replies and sorry for my English. For me it is foreign language.

Is it an a/c model?

If so unplug the brown sensor on the thermostat housing, the fans should come on (if they work)

If this does not make them come on then you will have relay/s, Fan motor/s, Bitron control unit or wiring problems.

Relays are behind the grille.

Bitron control unit is in front of l/h wheel under the arch liner near the Horn.

There is a multiplug in front of the Air filter canister which connects to the Fan housing, the pins and wires in here can corrode.

Thank you. I have a model with A/C.

Excuse me, what is "l/h wheel"? I know what is wheel, but I don't know the "l/h" shortage.
