Hi,

I've used search already but can't find anything that relates to this specific problem...

-intermittent doesnt work - just wipes continuously.

-one touch wipe only works when held in - if you let go they just park wherever they happen to be on the screen and you have to keep pressing it till it parks at the bottom.

any ideas? my bro recons this can be reset somehow?

It's faulty contacts inside the motor. There is an FAQ to overhaul them somewhere.
My wipers finally went mad today. Been putting up with a drivers side judder for months. Today they decided not to stop at the bottom of the screen and not stop on auto when the screen was dry.

So following on from this thread....

http://www.pug306.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1348913#post1348913

Using Warlords tip I did what he said and took some pics to help others. However I didnt take pics till I was reassambling.

Prise/pull of the wiper nut covers. Undo 13mm nuts and remove wipers. Make a note of which is which as they are different arms as well as wiper blade lengths.

Undo 2 torx head screws holding down plastic scuttle trim, slide trim down and lift off. I managed to get the o/s off without removing the n/s.

Undo 3 13mm bolts to remove the pointless (apart from the hole for one of the scuttle screws) metal bracket.

Disconnect the wiper plug. Undo 5 10mm bolts holding the wiper mech (one is at the other end out of shot). Remove mech. Remove all the leaves and shit collected in the well for the motor and make sure the drain isnt blocked.

Find a clean area to work in. I didnt have one!

Remove the 13mm nut holding the wiper mech to the wiper gearbox

Remove 3 10mm bolts holding the mech to the box. Seperate. Remove the round plastic cover on the shaft and remove entire plastic cover from the motor.

Good idea to make sure the motor is clean and dry before opening the box cover

Undo 4 7mm bolts to remove the cover. Try to lift off straight off so not to damage the contacts then tilt out the way. It will only go to about 90' before the wires go tight so dont force it

Carefully remove the gasket and put to one side.

My large cog was plastic with a metal plate. I didnt take it out to clean, I carefully did it in place. Make sure crap doesnt get in the teeth or grease. Once clean smear some of the excess grease in the housing on the face of the cog. There was loads in there between the 2 small cogs.

Clean the 3 contacts and bend them all slightly outwards so they make better contact. Bend the middle one a little bit more than the rest.

At this point I put the cover back on with 2 screws and tested it on the car. The motor clearly didnt stop in a specific place or continue a cycle so didnt work any better. So I cleaned it again and bent the contacts a little more and tried again. Still no joy so more cleaning etc again and this time it worked.

Now remove cover, refit gasket and cover and tighten the screws. Then I lubed the arm mechs to help prevent judder. They freed up nicely so hopefully will be good for ages.

Then reassamble the wiper mech. A bit fiddly connecting the mech to the shaft as you need to get it in the right place so they stop at the bottom of the screen. Put the connecting arm on the spindle and loosely spin the nut on. Then rotate the mech so that it is at the wipers down position making sure the motor doesnt move (when the arm spindles stop turning clockwise and would then start turning anti). Tighten the nut.

**EDIT** Yours may have arrows to allign to help.

In the position below the wipers would be fully up.

this is the position when they would be fully down

Stick it back on the car and test. Then wish it to rain and when it does, admire your handywork

Thanks Warlord for the heads up, hope im not teaching anyone to suck eggs.
