hi all i bought a second hand steering coloum for my phase3 gti6,off a club memeber off here. it seem to be an early phase model steering coloum i got,but i was told it would fit.so now i come to fit it and come across a problem.my steering wheel doesnt seem to fit correctly and it rubs on the back of the steering wheel.is this because mine is a phase3 type and the one i been sent is possable phase1 or 2?the top of the coloum seems wrong, see picturesphase 1 or 2 coloum my old steering coloum phase3 steering wheel phase3 any help would be gratefull as i need my car tomorrow, and i got a feeling i might have to fit my old coloum back |

theyre all the same.slacken off the clamp to the lower column and pull on the wheel till it doesnt rub on anything, there is a specified amount that the upper column should protrude from the bracket, all documented in the Haynes manual ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

my problem is still there ,when i fit my steering wheel is seem as if the steering wheel goes to far down then start rubbing. because when i fit my old coloum back on then fit the steering wheel on all is ok. if i fitted an earlier steering wheel would this cure it? |

well with having no look with this steering coloum, for osme strange reason it still rubs on the back of the wheels. so i refitted my old one and it went back together no problems, with no rubbing on the steering wheeli have noticed is all the bracket on the steering coloumi bought second hand are totally the wrong way round and the shaft seem to be totally different. here is few more pics. if anyone could help me out to why the (second hand)steering coloum seems to be rubbing away on the steering wheel very badly.pictures and advice welcome. more pictures |

Problem seems fairly obviousYou have a phase 3 type as where the bolt gos through the wheel into the rack wheras the one you have bought already has the thread on so you would need a nut onto it Will have a phase 3 type from a Rallye im breaking this weekend, PM if interested ________________________________________ Audi S3 Black Edition |

looking at your pictures coloums definatly wrong.look where wheel locates to splines one uses a bolt to secure the wheel one uses a nut.I think you have got a non airbag steering coloum.________________________________________ clio r27ps3 id:cooperkloe |

you can't get the shaft on its own.as I said earlier, there is no difference in the columns post May 2, 1994. you need to tap or pull the shaft up through the bracket, there should be 2mm clearance between the wheel and the bracket (where its been rubbing) ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

have you read any of what I've typed up there? loosen the clamp onto the lower column and give the wheel a good tug. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
