So recently my fans have been working on low speed once the water temp is upto 97 and then other times not.

Prompting the temp to shoot upto 107 and then the high speed fans cut in.

Today the water temp went upto around 110 before i saw any life from the fans.

This all happens whilst sat in traffic.

So today with mattgti6phase2 we took the grill off and had a look at the fan relays.
All of which are nice and clean with no sign whatsoever of corrosion.

So we started her up and let her warm upto 97 degrees about 3 seperate times each of which the low speed fans did NOT cut in UNLESS we flicked the fans with our fingers.

THEN they sprung into life and cooled the engine down accordingly.

Matt and his mechanic friend think it sounds like lazy fan motors.

And that sourcing some second hand fans/motor panel should solve my problem.

Anyone have any experience of this?

lazy fan motors in the sense that they are recieving power but appear to be stuck. so once with a push they fire up Big grin

If the voltages are there (you've seen the circuit diagram in the FAQ) and the fans require a prod to start spinning, but then behave as normal, then I'd say you've pretty much diagnosed your own problem..

I've not encountered "lazy" cooling fan motors - for me when they failed they just died completely - but sounds plausible. I mean, if the supply is there and they're not spinning, then the problem must lie within the motor..

I would suggest investigating the loom that feeds the fan frame from the body.
