Hi, I think my heater control flap is stuck. Reason being, I have flushed the matrix several times until it is running clear, bleed it up and the heaters are only luke warm. The right hand side one is the warmest, whilst the other three are only luke warm. When I divert it to the windows they are warm as well. There is no slack in the dial so I think the control flap might be stuck. How can I access it?

I would bet money on the matrix being blocked even though you've flushed it. Mine had the same treatment.

Be careful though as it will go at some point.

is it not a case of disconnecting the heater matrix pipes in the engine bay and flushing fresh water down in each direction to possible flush out the blockage?

Smegal seems to think not. Is it possible that it is blocked at the bottom and the water is just flowing through the top?

I hope this isn't the case for yours and there is no harm in trying but the exact thing happened in my old 1.6 XS a few years ago. The matrix ended up failing while waiting for a ferry to Calais. I luckily found some French radweld that sorted it.

Hi smegal thanks for the advice. So is it likely that the bottom and mid part are blocked and the water is just flowing through the top part? What actually causes the metal to weaken enough for a hole to form in it?

On mine it looks as if only water had been used as a coolant so the matrix filled up with rust, this rust blocked it up and corrodes through the matrix in the end.

My uncle who is a mechanic even flushed the matrix through and said it was the flap, the flap is a dash out job so I left it. Later on (about a year) the matrix went, me and a mate fitted the new one and straight away got toasty hot air from it.

Okay thanks I guess that must be the problem then. If it is necessary to take the dash out then I might as well do the matrix as well.

96 bud. Love your signature by the way. Is it plausible that the water could only be flowing through the top of the matrix, hence me only getting luke warm air?
