Hi Guys,

My car failed its MOT this week and was looking for a bit of advice. It failed on a couple of things which I think I have sorted. The one failure I'm not too sure about is:
"Exhaust emissions lamba reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (7.3.D.2Cool"

The emissions print out for the fast idle reads something like this:
First test
CO =< 0.30% 0.01% PASS
HC =< 200 PPM 12 PPM PASS
¥ 0.97 - 1.03 1.042 FAIL

Second test
CO =< 0.30% 0.00% PASS
HO =< 200PPM 7PPM PASS
¥ 0.97 - 1.03 1.035 FAIL

Does anyone know what is causing this and any ideas of best way to fix it. Is it by any chance the lamba sensor itself?

P.S Please excuse the ¥ symbol I couldn't find the right oneRazz

It could be the lambda sensor yes, or possibly the green coolant temperature sensor.

I'd guess its the sensor. The emissions are ok but the reading from the lambda sensor is outside the allowed range (0.97-1.03).

As its only just outside limits and running weak on lambda could well just be an air leak, you got an exhaust blow anywhere? Would easily cause this. Failed lambda would usually be further out than that and running rich not weak.
Pete.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I have just had a look at the car and there is a slight leak from the manifold to the cat. So Im guessing this could be it.

I havnt got time to sort it now before it goes back in for the retest. Seeing as it is on the rich side of the reading would taking it out for a drive and getting it nice and hot before the test help at all. Guessing its going to be running slightly leaner once its hot?

Dont want to be paying the garage silly money to fix it especially as its only just out.

Exhaust blowing would definately cause this. Not likely to be sensors of any kind
