Its my flux capacitor Yes
TBH i don't know what it is, i'll have to do a bit of research or unplug it and see what doesnt work anymore LOL

Couple of things i forgot to mention on the previous update, when i had the tracking done i had it set to parallel, and i have changed the pins that i had bridged for the air-con, i did have pins 1 & 2 bridged for low speed when the A/C was on, now i've bridged 1 & 3 so that the fans run high speed.
I was sat in traffic yesterday and with the fans on low the temperature will still very slowly creep up, so i decided it was better off to have the ability to actually cool the engine manually, rather than slow down it's heating up Smile

Well it survived FCS, handled like a dream but seriously lacks power for passing people.
I had no issues with the brakes either, didn't manage to cook them today which was nice, although tbh there were some seriously slow people on track so i didnt give them a massive amount of abuse.

Unfortunately my cheapo camera must have dislodged the lens when it dropped a while ago as all the recordings are just like white blurry images. I've whipped it apart and have put the lens back in place and using some epoxy to hold it, not the fail that was their hot glue gun style stuff.

Touch wood it will be fixed by morning and save me having to order another before germany on friday.

No problems, just developing a new line, which i will now call the 'Steve line', its similar to the racing line but much straighter and may involve a little driving on grass Laugh my ass off

It would have been epic if i had that on video, instead you just have the sound which doesnt do it justice Sad

When fitting oil coolers do you fill them up with oil then attach the hoses so once the thermostat opens (if it has one) the hoses fill with oil from the sump or is it done another way?.

I fitted mine empty but made sure the engine was at the max mark on the dipstick before turning it over. I was having issues with mine not wanting to start for ages so oil got pumped through them from just turning the engine over.
I checked the oil level before it eventually fired up and it had gone down a bit so i topped it back up and then got the engine running.

After a couple of minutes i stopped the engine and let the oil settle, it hadnt gone down so i started it back up and let it get up to temperature to allow the 'stat to open and get full flow through.
After that i turned the engine off, gave the oil time to settle, checked the level and filled it back up. It didnt dip below the 'min' point so all was good for me, it wont be so drastic with just the one cooler i would imagine.

AFAIK the 'stat never fully closes so with the engine running some oil will still be sent through the system but at a reduced rate, which will probably help stop the lack of oil from having to pump it through the rad from being full of air. (I hope that makes sense, it kind of did in my head LOL)

I could have got ends like yours but the jubilee clips inside looked cheap and it didnt fill me with confidence so i went for some heavier duty ones instead.

I PM'd vitesse tuning about a FG bonnet and boot but havent heard anything back yet.

I may bring it along with me, although i may develop some other new lines whilst we're out there, hopefully not the 'sideways into armco line' or the 'cartwheel of doom line' though.

Yeah, i assumed he was very busy and that his inbox was probably full. I'm not in any rush as i have a very expensive summer ahead of me, i think it's going to be a while before theres any real updates on goldie other than the occasional trackday video.

I will soon need a new clutch, but wont fit that until i get another gearbox, but i want to get a slippy diff before i fit a new box to save some ball ache at a later date, this all adds up to be £800+ including new clutch cable, seals, oils etc, hence why its going to be a while LOL

Minor update time, although not a lot has changed LOL

I took goldie to FCS, unfortunately my camera had broken so the video footage of the two track sessions was messed up. Sad
The car held up well and was very capable, there was a little moment of ambition beating adhesion with the new chicane layout and me taking a nice straight line over a little patch of grass Ninja Laugh

I pinched some photos from Rob McDougalls website:

After FCS i took goldie to the nurburgring, pleased with how well it handled at rockingham.
After a bit of an epic 18 hour drive there including a failing clutch cable on the belgian motorway in stop-start traffic. It took us a record 10 mins to change thanks to the soaking road to lay on and the lack of air-con pipes:

Got there, setup camp and had a good night sleep, the GP circuit was included on the nordschleife circuit for the TF so did a couple of decent laps on saturday evening, i recorded part of the second lap but the carousel broke my camera and stopped it recording Doh
That lap
I should point out that there were some slightly damp patches on that lap as it had been raining previously, so it was a little slippy in places.

On the way back to the campsite i had to turn into the campsite full lock and popped the high pressure hose off the power steering pump Doh
A nice pop noise followed by a little puddle and an 'Oh sh*t' by me with my new nice and heavy steering LOL

I stuck the hose back on the pump but left it dry so there was no risk of dumping fluid on track, at the risk of damaging the pump.

The next day i got 3 laps done before i developed a nice misfire. I determined it was a coilpack but the fact that some of the spare coilpacks we had taken were broken confused the hell out of me at the time so i just left goldie and went out with mates in their cars for the rest of the day.

Monday came around and i investigated the misfire in greater detail, determined to squeeze another lap or two out of her. Sorted out the coilpack with the only working spare we had and blasted another lap out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZa2lbzefjA
]That lap[/url]
I wasnt chasing times but watching through the video footage i worked out it was a 9:06 lap which i'm quite chuffed about, especially considering a few people wouldnt let me past Smile

After that lap i went to a viewing point to take someone else out for a lap, just as i got to the viewing point the engine cut out.

I couldnt get it started again, there was no spark so we towed it back to the campsite and thanks to Donny for allowing us to borrow bits from his gti6 we determined it was the crank sensor at fault.

Trying to source a crank sensor for a peugeot in germany in the evening of a bank holdiay monday is no easy task. We asked my breakdown cover company (co-operative) if they could source one for us and us collect it so we could fit it and be able to leave for the ferry on time the following day, they assured us that they would call us between 8:30 and 9:00am the following day. They ended up calling us at 2:45pm which was no use at all. Won't be using them again. Thumbs down
We had met up with marco previously, and knowing that he had a written off gti6 i asked if i could borrow his crank sensor just so i could drive home, he agreed so me and a mate drove over to marco's, got there at midnight, got his sensor off and went back to the campsite.
It was 2am when we got back so i fitted it and checked it would start. It did Hyper

The next morning i was up at 6:30 to pack up, i stuck a bottle of ATF fluid in the power steering res so i wouldnt have to run the pump dry all the way home.
I got back to dover, filled up with fuel and the hose popped off again Doh
I burned my arm on the radiator trying to reach down and fix it which p*ssed me off so i just left it off for the rest of the journey.

Since getting home i have a brand new genuine peugeot crank sensor which i fitted yesterday and i had a sleeve crimped on to the hose to secure it properly, hopefully this will have solved that issue for good.

A couple of photos from the 'ring trip:

My top of the range ICE to get me through the journey to and from germany:

The next outing for goldie will be a trackday at Oulton park in July if everything goes well.
I'm just waiting on some more spare coilpacks and spare sensors so if there are any breakdowns i shouldnt be stuck there and able to get back on track relatively quickly.
I just need to flush the oil and put some fresh in, and get four new road tyres as these ones are now borderline legal.

Razz

Might aswell do a minor update since you bumped the thread up.
I did the trackday at Oulton park, the car held together pretty well, oil temp was nice and i couldnt get it above 100c all day.
My camera played up in the afternoon so i only got a couple of slower videos from the morning sessions.

Video 1
Video 2

Whilst there the nearside balljoint started to clunk a bit, it seems the pinch bolt had loosened itself a little so i'm assuming it ovalled the hub a bit.
I've bought a pair of hubs which are still nice and round, and a new wheel bearing kit and new balljoint which i intend to fit some time soon.

The car has also been MOT'd so is all good for another year of motoring now. Big grin

A few of us are booked on for a trackday at Cadwell park on Tuesday the 13th of September if anyone fancies it.

Other than that not a lot of progress has been made really, it's been an expensive summer and will continue to be until October, so hopefully the car will progress more over winter ready for another summer filled with trackdays. Hyper

New forum bump with some very minor tweaks.

I bought some new dust caps for the wheel valves, nice cheap plastic jobbies from ebay, i forgot to get the old ones from the garage when i had the Rainsport 2's fitted.

I fitted a new wheel bearing into the spare hub and fitted that along with the new balljoint. No more knocking when throwing the car about side to side anymore which is nice. I thought i had some new pinch bolts lying round but it turned out i hadn't so since then i ordered some 12.9 capscrews which i will fit before the next trackday, also bought loads of M10 Nylocs as my old stash ran out.

Today i finally fixed the insanely annoying rattle at certain revs, it was the heat shield that bolts to the head and exhaust manifold, one of the lugs on the head had stripped threads so the old bolt had come out and allowed the heatshield to flap round and annoy the hell out of me at motorway speeds.
I was going to drill out the lug and tap it M8 but theres no room to get a drill in without rocking the engine forward which seemed like a lot of ball ache so i got a long M6 capscrew, put a dab of loctite on it and pushed it through the lug and after a lot of messing round managed to get a nyloc on it. (It was the one just under the master cylinder, so very hard to hold a nut and get it into position. In the end the way to do it was to get some double sided tape and tape the nyloc to the end of a finger and get my finger in there. LOL

I also fitted the coilpack cover as it was unsightly with it missing.

The last thing i did to it today was wash the windows after i had finished washing my diablo, it's nice being able to see out of the car again, and a quick test drive told me that the rattle has finally gone. Big grin

Just need to flush the oil before the next trackday and change the pinch bolts and its ready to go. Smile

A couple of things have happened since the last post.
I went to cadwell on the 13th of september for my first trackday there, I had a great time and goldie held itself together all day too which was a nice bonus.
I was a bit steady in the morning but got progressively faster as the day went on. In the afternoon my nearside tyres were very worn so i decided to swap them over with the offside wheels, and in typical fashion it then decided to throw it down! Doh

I waited for the rain to die down and ventured out onto the track nervously (near slick R888's with the remaining tread trying to force any water to the centre of the wheel is never going to be a great setup for the wet track). As expected it was very slippy so i just pootled round for 20 mins and it began to dry out, so i kept getting more and more agressive over the next 20 mins. Unfortunately my camera decided to fill the memory and fail to save any of the footage but i was one of the quickest on track at that point. Big grin

I had no overheating issues at all, the oil didnt get above 115c all day, and no issues with cooked brakes so my efforts to keep stuff cool seem to have paid off.
The only minor issue is the annoying ball joint clunk when transfering weight from side to the other, so i pitted and nipped up the pinch bolt a bit more and that stopped that.

I have a couple of videos from the morning sessions when i was a bit slower, still had a good tussle with a clio though.

Clio
Other clip

I took a mate along as my passenger for the day, he took his DSLR and got some pretty nice snaps, here are a few of them:

After that day i've decided i could do with a roll cage after seeing a nasty smash and a few others which could have ended pretty nastily, so i'm going to send my car off to Phill at some point during winter for one of his cages to be welded in.
I could also do with a slippy diff but thats a slightly less important addition for now.
I also want more power as i kept catching people and not having the power to get past on the straights which is annoying.
I have a 30mm ARB some 21mm torsion bars and a rear beam rebuild kit which could do with a new home on the car, but i think im going to buy another rear beam and get Martin to machine some negative camber for me before i put it together and onto the car.

The car is currently SORN'd so i dont keep going out and wasting loads of petrol in it, allowing me to buy these new shiny bits for it. Laugh

I've just bought a new valeo clutch for it ready for when i sort out a slippy diff and some of miles' gear linkages, it doesnt need a new clutch but i may aswell fit a new one when i put a new 'box on it (this one tends to crunch when going into 2nd).

The postman has also just delivered these this morning:
Catcams 4903110 with the required springs and retainers.

I'm going to slowly build up a high compression engine over the next year or so, as and when i can afford it, i've got a spare block which just needs boring and possibly decking, i'll be getting forged pistons and rods, i have some of Rich's uprated bigend and main bearings and headgasket already. I just need to source a head now as i have loads of spare good valves LOL

I'm also working on a throttle body setup similar to what yanni did, i was originally going to use silicon joiners to mount the bodies to an old inlet manifold but then i bought these cams and decided that if im going to all this effort i may as well mount them properly and get a flange sorted out.
It's handy being a machinist as i get to stop after hours and make myself shiny new parts. LOL

So far i've made some plugs which sit where the bike injectors used to live which im going to hook up to a small plenum to control the idle with the MAP sensor incorporated into it. I then made a bracket which holds these plugs in place, as i was originally (before i decided to go the high compression route) planning on getting a supercharger and running it through the ITB's just so i had a unique setup and i didnt want the possibility of boost popping these plugs out. In the end i decided against this as it would be a pretty expensive project and i can't be bothered with the potential unreliability.

I have also made some linkages between the bodies, i just need to get round to riveting them to the tabs.

I've modelled some stuff in CAD for the bodies and i've found some ally flat which my boss said i can have for the flanges, so i think i'm going to head into work on sunday morning to make a start on milling the manifold so the runners are all equal length and have a nice square end. I doubt i'll get anything done on the flanges as i want to learn how to use the new miller and have them as an excuse to play about with it, but its still sat on a pallet at the moment whilst we decide where to put it.

Some pictures of what i've been doing:
The plugs to go where the old injectors lived.

In situ.

Little ally plenum for the plugs to connect to for idle control and MAP sensor.

How i was going to have them.

CAD model of how the new setup will look. (Lego style throttle bodies as i couldnt be bothered to model them exactly due to time constraints).

I think thats about everything since my last post. Smile
