What else could this be? I've checked the wiring loom that runs along the cross member and it looks ok, really confused now!

Right, I had an issue with the cooling fans, put it down to the bitron unit. Changed this for a brand new unit but still have the same issue - fans on constantly even with the car turned off. What else could this be? I've checked the wiring loom that runs along the cross member and it looks ok, really confused now! |

I'm going to have a look at the connector by the rad, I'll let you know if that solves anything. |

that was the culprit on my brothers 306, a few pins had corroded away totally.he'd blew apart his expansion tank and thus the headgasket because he's a numpty ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

But with the fans running constantly, the engine won't overheat...right? Hopefully the car lasts until the weekend |

f*cking piece of shite! Done some further cleaning and checking of connectors and the bloody fans still come on! So far this has been done:Brand new bitron unit Brand new brown temp sensor Cleaner and checked all connertors by the bottom of the rad. Everything has been done following searches and advice but nothings worked?! Is there anything else that can cause/solve this please? |

If the sensor and control unit are fine then it will either be a relay or wiring problem. The relays have battery and ignition feeds so if they are shorted inside they could bring the fans on. The same goes for the wiring. ________________________________________ Rich |

A little update:Further to the replaced parts and cleaned connectors I have now just this moment replaced all three relays and low and behold the fans kicked in Trying to get my head round this but this is what is happening: Right green relay + black relay = No fans Left green relay + black relay = Both fans on low speed Both green relays + black relay = Both fans on low speed Both green relay + no black relay = No fans To my simple mind this is pointing to wiring issues with the left relay connector or the black relay connector, am I right? Or could it be the thermostat the buggered? I am seriously losing the will to live (for the 6) at the moment so any further help will be greatly appreciated* *Not in a gay way |

I'm having a similar issue (intermittant full speed fans) and almost certainly aiming my sights at a dodgy earth.Does anyone have a list of the main earthing points from the loom? I'd like to check them all one by one and gota6again should probably do the same. ________________________________________ GTI-6 & RallyeRallye gets sideways in the wet at Snetterton |

As far as the earths are concerned, I've no idea where to start.Matt, all the connectors had little or no corrosion, which is what's baffled me, short (pardon the pun!) of me taking the front end apart to check ALL wires I'm all out of ideas. |

Finally after enjoying the disco dash light and constant cool engine the above problem has been fixed Thought I'd let other members know how I managed it. After replacing all relays, sensors and the bitron the problem persisted, so in a desperate attempt I went and bought electrical contact cleaner from maplins, sprayed this on the battery terminals, earths and all connectors and ta da! Problem gone! So before spending your hard earned cash on relays and sensors, try a £3 spray can of electrical contact cleaner. |
