I've just bought a Group N 306 tarmac rally car. In the spares package came one of these:

http://www.efitechnology.it/Euro1_It.html

Has anyone ever used them, and does anyone know how you configure them ?

They appear to be a retro-fit for the standard ECU plug.

Presumably there is a separate lead from the ECU loom somewhere that attaches to a laptop, or you need to open it up and plug something into the ECU internally ?

Anyone shed any light on this ?

Should be a comms lead on the loom somewhere, depends if the loom in the car has been built for it or if the ECU was bought by the previous owner but never fitted. I'd expect it'll probably be RS232 connection on that ECU (similar to a monitor VGA cable plug)

EFI may well supply the software FOC to map the ECU, most companies do. EFI used to do a pot box for mapping spark and fuel which is quite a nice way to map

I would imagine so as its an ex-BTCC car, which ran Longmans built engines, Longmans favoured the EFI ecu's.

They are well regarded I believe, I have heard they often cause issues as they can be locked down to prevent Joe Bloggs from mapping it, they have to go to an authorised dealer/mapper to have the map adjusted.

I run efi on the turbo, a right bas**rd to map but once done it runs like a dream. Costs a lot to map properly, around £500 from a non running car to sorted.

Just take it to the right place, i use track and road in essex, they know there stuff.
