I've just bought a new GTi-6 and the rear demister isn’t working Sad

When the button is pressed there is a “click” from the fusebox area but the button doesn’t light up or the rear screen clear

I just want someone to tell me it is simple to fix!

Thanks if you can help Smile

Phase 3 fuse 7 30A and 22
Phase 2 fuse 5 and 27

The relay is the large Orange one with 9619879180 on it.

Went to halfrauds, guy behind the parts counter said they don't stock them. I've checked the fuses, they're both fine. One thing I did notice though, how the f*ck to you taker the existing relay out? Don't want to break it in half but I tried squeezing, turning, cursing etc but it was stuck.

Do you mean the contacts in the relay panel itself? In that case you would need to clean up/re-solder/replace the burned out contacts.

Good idea to pull all relays and fuses one at a time, clean contacts as they get corroded with cars sitting outside in the weather all the time and things being generally wet corrosion builds up, which increases resistance, which makes the contacts and relay get hot, and eventually burns things out. Even just unplugging and replugging helps contacts conduct current better as it scratches the contact metal slightly cleaner.

First step to check if correct relay fitted: my rear demister only worked if button held in with finger, when releasing it light went out. Turned out a PO had replaced the orange relay with a green one (standard on/off relay). A replacement orange one (correct orange relay has 10 - 12 minute timed delay) fixed the problem.

I have changed the relay which cured the problem used the demister about twice and it's stopped working again, I assume it's the relay again, anything else I should check before putting another relay in it?
