More than likely now buying a rallye, just wondering if its easy to modify the car so I can add recirculation to the car, sitting in stop start traffic without it is not nice at all and heating takes forever.

I dont mind an entire dash out job which I assume it is because to me its a worthwhile mod.

If its a feature you like then its probably worth getting a different car Yes Doesnt even work on a lot of 6's so not really worth fitting to a Rallye No

Im talking about recurc not A/C, sitting on the m25 bumper to bumper and opening the window results in smog Big grin Or driving past the dump on the A40 everyday.

I'm not asking if I want it or not I'm asking has anyone else done it or know the job involved in modding it. Adding 1kg of weight to a rallye at the most I couldn't give a damn about.

The recirculation feature is only available on the models with climate control (and therefore air conditioning).

You could upgrade the heater system to the climate control spec but it would mean changing everything. Heater boxes, matrix and looms would all have to be replaced.

Personally I don't think that's worth the effort but it's up to you. Everything the Rallye came without was available as an option so there are a few Rallye's with climate control kicking around.

If it's a feature you really desire I would suggest looking for a GTi-6 not a Rallye.

Sounds like I could just look how the 306 works which is probably just a panel with an electronic flap, im sure I could custom make a switch and use second hand parts from a 306 with aircon/recirculation heating.

Thanks for the advice.

It's easier paying for a rallye rather than striping a gti-6 and paying 300-400 extra for the insurance.

rallyes are insurance group 17 whereas a gti6 is 16 so should be cheaper

I wouldn't say a Rallye is exactly stripped compared to a 6. Have you read the FAQ? If you're bothered about it I'd just get a decent 6.

It's 15 and 16 I believe. They are only recommended groups anyway.

It depends on the individual insurer's experiences with the particular vehicles too, and I would imagine most insurers see more claims arise from GTi's than Rallye's and therefore see the GTi as a higher risk car.

It's only one insurer but Elephant charge exactly the same for a 6 or Rallye.

If you are going to "strip out a car" why the hell would you want to put aircon in it?

Seems a bit silly to me.

Yes

And I'd hardly call being able to shut out foul air when you're going through tunnels a "luxury"... lungful of the dartford/rotherhithe/blackwall tunnel?! For all of 50kg weight difference? f*ck that! Laugh my ass off
