Hi, I'm working on a 306 GTi 6, and two of the valves are bent on the old head. So I've taken that head off and get a new one to go on. I'm just wondering, with the timing marks for the crank shaft, should the pistons be around halfway through their cycle?? Because I'm used to engines that have their timing marks at TDC. Many thanks in advanced |

yeah with the head off, turn the engine until the pistons are all at the same height. then theres a hole in the crank pulley which you want to stick a pin in (or a drill bit) this should lock the bottom end in place, if the hole in the pulley doesnt line up with the slot in the block then the rubber damper (2 part pulley) has slipped which WILL require a new pulley.Make sure if you are repairing your head that all of the valves are perfect. loads of people have only replaced the valves that visually look damaged but found out once running again that some more are not straight ________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |

I've got a refurbished head to go on, so the old head won't be used on this engine. Do the pistons have to be exactly half way down? i.e. same distance on all of them? |

yup, making sure the bottom pulley is in good nick and pinned will ensure that.if that is not the case, the timing will be wrong when you fit the head with the cams pinned. also, have a read of the information here; http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=94227 ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
