Right i have a spare bottom end sitting in my shed and i no there is alot that can be be done with one. I have been doing my research Big grin

Parts supplied from Rich_w
* Billet Steel Flywheels [Light weight] - £200
* Uprated Main & Big-end Bearings - £115
* Uprated Head Gaskets with Head bolts - £120
* Alloy Engine Pulleys (Crankshaft, Guide/Idle & Auto Tensione) - £140
TOTAL = £575

Other parts
* Forged/Wossner pistons and rods - around £1000

Anyway back to my question... is there a different crankshaft you can use? like light weight one or something?

if you are getting custom pistons you could get an 88mm crank to increase capacity.

I believe you can use the steel crank from a 1.9 Dturbo.

I think there is an 88mm balanced steel crank in one of the mi engines (mi16?) but could be wrong.

(if anyone has one of these I may be interested!)

you can buy a billet one, there was a link to one posted up a while back but about a grand. There isnt much wrong with the standard one, Rich put over 500 BHP through his.
However not sure how high reving will affect it, all depends on what you want the engine for.
And you could get it all balanced.

The diesel crank as said above is steel and a fair bit lighter than a normal XU10 one. iirc when I weighed the two there was something stupid like 4Kg's difference.

I know the MI ran the longer stroke but wasnt aware they are also steel.

I've always fancied trying to do something with S16 rods and pistons and the diesel crank. I measured an S16 and it would appear that they come to 1mm under deck height at TDC so the crank would bring it back flush like the GTI6 motor is standard.

Ive never bothered sitting there and calculating the Cr this would give though and if it were that simple I would think others would be doing it.

2.1 TD crank

it makes for an engine knocking on the door of 200 lbft's and 240 ish bhp with very mild cam upgrades if its done right.

you'll need custom length rods but other than that they would run.
