well after a year i have finally managed to get my Supercharged 205 running. only thing is now the top end is tapping. it wasnt tapping when i took it all apart and from what i can make out i think its one of the lifters that hasnt had any oil to it what with the engine standing for over a year.

before i started it i turned it over on the key for a little bit to hopefully get the oil moving. once it started i let it run on idle for 5 mins so i could check water levels, charger oil level etc
the noise was quite bad but as the minutes passed the tapping got quiter which i'm assuming is the lifters filling up with oil. how ever it seems like 1 or maybe 2 arent filling up with oil. any ideas what i could do to solve this? or maybe i'm looking in the wrong direction?

any help would be great. thanks

Did you have the head off the car? maybe you have bent a valve slightly? as it doesnt take much, im guessing this was the case with mine as ive had the head on and off a few times and i know the head was off before i got the car i think this is when it happened.

My car was a tapper before i charged it and its tapped away since, im planning on getting a recon head from mech repairs eventually.

Best get it sorted... look what happened to my tapping engine Guns
i had a standard engine and this happened, i have no idea how long it had been like that bit just goes to show what can happen and you have to think of how much more pressure your putting on your engine with a supercharger

Are you able to get a video up?

Have you had the cambelt off since it was last running?

nope havent had the head off or done the cambelt since it was last running and it was fine a year ago thats why i'm assuming its the lifters that are lacking oil because its been stood for so long.

i'll try and get a vid up later on.

Is it a realy loud tap ?

If it isnt that bad, and you havent had the belt off then it might well be the lifters, take the cam covers off and add a bit of oil all over, it should clear after 10-15min.

i thought i had the same problem when i rebuilt my sc engine, but it turned out it was a bent valve or two, and it made one hell of a noise, it honestly sounded like a diesel tranny van engine, it was that bad LOL

you could have dropped something in a inlet by acident
and cause top end damage.

dont think so. as soon as i took the inlet mani off i blocked the ports with rags and when i fitted the new inlet i blew all the dust and crap away.

Give it a bit longer running. I have a feeling it may just be the lifters. They can take quite a while to fully fill again if the engine has been standing for a long time.

Agreed. If it hasn't cleared after 15 minutes of driving, you do have a problem.

Video sound can be misleading sometimes but that doesn't sound like the tapper I've heard in the flesh.
Are you certain it's the top end? It sounds a bit too heavy to me - if you know what I meanLOL
I hope I'm completely wrong for your sake Smile

If it ran fine with no noise before you took it off the road, and you haven't had the head off/cambelt touched, I would say 100% it's your lifters. Yes

Stan.
