This all began one Saturday morning, after reading plenty of peoples refurb threads and was stuck in-between two minds. Do I refurb a set a ‘clones? Or do I go all out and buy a new set of wheels? Dunno

After a quick call to Pug Performance, an hour and half drive soon followed up to Alton to go pick up some clones in need of TLC!
The one big fail about this thread is I didn’t take pictures as I went along Roll eyes

On the way back home I picked up some essentials in the way of…

Acid Etch #8 primer

Nitro Mors

Sand paper & sanding sponge

Wire brush

Thinners

U-Pol D metal filler

I’m sure you all know what sand paper & a wire brush looks likes! Razz

Once I got home, out come the jet wash to get some of the crap off the wheels as the build up of dirt and grime was unreal!
Next was the Nitro Mors. Now, this stuff is VERY strong! So this was a job for outside, as I didn’t fancy finding myself an hour later face down on the concrete floor in the garage LOL

Depending on how you feel (how lazy you are) and what sort of finish you want will depend on how many times you use Nitro Mors. I used it three times on each wheel to make sure I got them as clean as I possibly could right back to bare metal.
Then it was just a case of using the sand paper to get the odd bit of old primer off the inside the wheels and from off the face’s.

Now that they’re all cleaner than one of rat boy’s cars Big grin out with the jet gun & thinners to make sure that there’s no residue of Nitro Mors left. Also to make sure there’s not a small piece of old primer suck down in the wheel bolthole. Because lets face it, that would just be Cry

All four of the wheels had some curbing on them, one of them was worse than the others. That’s where the U-Pol D comes in! This comes as a two part mix, just adding a small amount of hardener, mixing it together and Wizard we have a lightweight and strong metal filler!

Got to use it in either small amounts, or very quickly as it sets fast! Once all the little dings and curb marks are filled, let it set for 20-30 mins to make sure it’s gone off properly. Now it’s just a case of sanding it back until it’s as flush to the rest of the wheel as you can get it.

Now with the Acid Etch #8 Point and spray! I mean what else do you need to know? Big grin
I left each wheel around 2-3 days before sanding back and giving them another coat, then just keep repeating this until your happy with the finish.

Now that all that work had been finished, came the hard part. What colour do I go for? I’ve seen them in gloss black, white, polished, shadow chrome, red, green, and orange… but never in blue Hmm

So now for a trip down to rainbow paints in Ferndown. I told the guy I spoke to it was going to be for a white Rallye who then just went Hyper
turns out he use to have one a few years back LOL and proceeded by getting out about 8 books full of colours to choose from Crazy

I told him I had in mind a nice blue, his only reaction was Scooby blue!!! so... off he went and made me up a batch to take away Smile

My dad had recently just bought a compressor, so this was going to come in handy for the final finish. Again leaving about 2 days between coats and sanding.
And, well… here we are, all finished looking nice and shiny

Please feel free to say what you want, but i can't help but look at these Love Cool

very quick, short bursts with the gun Thumbs up when i first done it, i did have a bit run from the top of the wheel. let it dry, sand it back and started again.
as for the finish, a friend of mine knew someone who get get hold of a plastic lacquer Dunno i got told it is the same stuff they use at professional alloy refub shops?
