Couple of times this has happened now, I've done a search but couldn't find much. When I've been sitting / slowly moving in traffic the engine temp has shot up to almost max (about 110) Fans kick in and the temp creeps back down to normal (90ish) but then a little while later it happened again...No warning lights or anything on the dash... any thoughts? |

Could be that your fans aren't working on the low speed function which occurs at 97 degrees. At 107 they go into high speed mode, this may be what's happening to yours. Can't remember what exactly controls what speed they run at though. Maybe the relays on fan housing? |

I'll double check but I think they are working at low speed, i remember hearing them kick in before. |

Pull the connector on the brown coolant temp sensor (on the thermostat housing) and check both fans spin up. If one isn't turning then as said, you'll have lost low-speed mode and it's just the one fan kicking in at high temp/high speed. If that's the case then check the relays (the two green ones that control each fan plus the black changeover relay between them). There's a wiring diagram in the FAQ section. ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. I had the same problem. Turned out to be a dodgy earth in the wiring by the fans.________________________________________ Black 306 GTi-6 175.8BHP SCA Norwich ProjectTopaz Blue 205 CTI |
