I have a New Zealand new 1997 306 gti-6 and it won't start. Long story short the ECU failed. Obtained an unlocked one off ebay and there's a spark, fuel etc but no start.

If you tow start it it works fine but not from the key, just turns over and never catches. Peugeot reckon this is because there are 2 different types of ecu for the 306, a single sensor and dual sensor one, and this is the wrong one.

Can anyone shed any light or tell me a way to get this ecu (dual sensor?) to run on this ecu?

Thanks

There was never a "dual sensor" ECU on our cars No There may have been on the Citroen Xsara VTS as I know the Saxo went from single to dual lambda setup (and a more complicated ECU/multiplexed setup as a result).

What ECU have you got, and what car did it come off?

Provided it is properly unlocked, yes.

The original ECU was a 16264.054, 9631237980 and the one that is on there now is a 16264.064, 9632029580.

The car starts when the engine is warm or is tow started and the revs get to around 1300.

Cam and crank sensors have been tested and can see the correct waveforms on the scope. Cam sensor has a max output of 3.7v when cranking.

Just will not start when cold and the cam reference appears to get lost and almost starts but timing appears to be out.

The cam sensor fluctuates between 0-3.7v and not 3.5-4.5v as per the Autodata info.

Would this suggest it is bust? There aren't many GTi-6s in the country so takes a week to get anything here so if there's anything else I should order at the same time le me know.

Thanks

A new cam sensor has improved things but still having an issue with cold start. Plugs get fouled with fuel and the engine doesn't catch.

Have checked the CTS and tested with a dummy load to give the correct resistances for the temp and made no difference.

Fuel pressure has been checked and found to be ok. Plugs good and giving a good spark.

Struggling for ideas now as all sensors have been tested and check out ok. What else could it be?
