Hi all, i'm new here...

I know this is the nth repost of this topic, i was searching first for existing topics regarding this modification, but i haven't found good answers for my questions.

The thing is i want to put this engine in my 306 next year, i was gathering a lot of information but still not enough to make me want to start it.

Things i know / i don't know:
- The engine fits the bay
- The weight problem is not that big deal (since i'm not having a gti6 and my suspension is totally custom i think i can set it up to make it usable, and my current engine is iron (XU10J2) but the V6 is alloy)
- The lower mounting looks totally the same like the XU's, but is the position the same or do i have to make a custom mounting?
- The upper mounting is not the same i saw on photos but i thing i can make an own, is it very difficult?
- The ES9J4's transmission's upper mounting is the same like the BE gearboxes or do i have to make an adaptor for this?
- The GTi/XSI driveshafts have 24 grips at the differential side and 25 grips on the wheel/hub side. The 406 V6 driveshafts have 37 grips on the differential side and 25 on the wheel/hub side. The Renault Laguna V6 driveshafts have 26 grips on the differential side and 27 on the wheel/hub side. Thats obvious the original GTi/S16/XSI shafts cant fit in the differential. The 406 shafts are longer so, they can't fir. The Laguna shafts can't fit the hub. So what's the solution? Is it possible to use the differential endings of the 406 shafts and put them on the GTi shafts?
- Is it possible to put the BE3 differential in the V6's gearbox? (keeping the big gear of course)
- Is the differential in the same distances of the wheels as the XU engine's gearbox's?
- I know the V6 gearbox uses bowden cables for changins the transmission, so i guess i will need the complete structure from the interior of the stick. Is it possible to use the original 306 in a way or do i have to put the complete stuff?
- I checked the shematics and i think i can do the connections, is there any other trick that i should know?
- Is the 1.8i/2.0i cooler radiator enough for the V6 engine?

I think this is all for now that i should know before the modification, i would be very thankful if somebody can tell me what i need to know especially if such person tells me who actually did this mod already to a 306.

Thank you for the answers in advance!

- The engine fits the bay Yes LOL

- The weight problem is not that big deal (since i'm not having a gti6 and my suspension is totally custom i think i can set it up to make it usable, and my current engine is iron (XU10J2) but the V6 is alloy)

all up it is heavier due to the gearbox and ancillaries, but well balanced.

- The lower mounting looks totally the same like the XU's, but is the position the same or do i have to make a custom mounting?

the lower fork requires re-angling to suit.

- The upper mounting is not the same i saw on photos but i thing i can make an own, is it very difficult?

there is two ways, weld in 406 mounting, or buy an alloy mounting from SES, not sure if there are any left

- The ES9J4's transmission's upper mounting is the same like the BE gearboxes or do i have to make an adaptor for this?

yes it sits in the same place

- The GTi/XSI driveshafts have 24 grips at the differential side and 25 grips on the wheel/hub side. The 406 V6 driveshafts have 37 grips on the differential side and 25 on the wheel/hub side. The Renault Laguna V6 driveshafts have 26 grips on the differential side and 27 on the wheel/hub side. Thats obvious the original GTi/S16/XSI shafts cant fit in the differential. The 406 shafts are longer so, they can't fir. The Laguna shafts can't fit the hub. So what's the solution? Is it possible to use the differential endings of the 406 shafts and put them on the GTi shafts?

use 406 inner shafts with 306 outer CV joints, it means cutting both shafts and welding them together, no strength issues at all if done correctly

- Is it possible to put the BE3 differential in the V6's gearbox? (keeping the big gear of course)

no

- Is the differential in the same distances of the wheels as the XU engine's gearbox's?

no

- I know the V6 gearbox uses bowden cables for changins the transmission, so i guess i will need the complete structure from the interior of the stick. Is it possible to use the original 306 in a way or do i have to put the complete stuff?

use all the cables as a complete assembly, minor modification required to the shell where the 306 gearstick is

- I checked the shematics and i think i can do the connections, is there any other trick that i should know?

none really, its not a difficult loom as they share the same wire numbers and principles, the immobiliser transponders can be fitted directly from the 406 into a 306

- Is the 1.8i/2.0i cooler radiator enough for the V6 engine?

use 406 or 407 radiator, the pipes are both on the l/h end of the rad, totally different to a 306

Wow, thanks for the fast and satisfying answers!

I'm a bit worried about the welded driveshafts, i can't really do that so i have to ask someone to make that for me and i don't really trust other's job as my own. Unsure

But fortunately except this it doesn't sound as bad as i thought.

Thanks again! Thumbs up

get thirdtimelucky from 205 drivers to do the shafts. Got mine spot on and £25 a side.

as for the gearbox mount id double check. On my 309 it was too low and i had to make a custom mount. 306 might be the same though

Thank you all for the lot of help, and fast replies! Thumbs up

It totally did worth to make an account here Roll eyes

I dont know why didn't i find that topic Blink
But i will read it for sure. Unfortunately i'm far from UK (in Hungary) so i can't ask anybody there to make it for me. Sad

Btw i dont think it's easy to make the change, but i can work in a very good workshop, i have all the tools, lifters and materials to make any custom mounting, wiring, testing, even dyno pad, so i don't think it will take more than a week if i have all the parts and the shafts finished.

I think the hardest part will be making the shafts. Can anyone tell me the exact length of the finished shafts? Or any useful measurement details? What kind of welding should be used?

Thx!

The length of the shafts entirely depends on the engine mounts you use and where the engine ends up in the bay. There is a bit of float on them and they aren't balanced as standard so don't worry too much if they aren't 100% straight. You'll feel if its bad.

The subframe cutting/welding and routing the PAS pipes took us the most time, along with the clutch system. Getting around the immobiliser could be fun too.

Its worth it in the end - my newly 250lbft impreza is only just starting to feel as quick 40-120mph Wink

Is there a possibility to use the BE3/6 Gearbox of a GTI6 instead the BE3 from the 406 ? If yes, than you have not to change the shafts...
