I found this today, I changed the plugs and it drives spot on I even gave it good spanking along the A4 just for good measure(chiswick and back).

Will the obvious missing part fall straight through into the internals, if so would I notice something wrong immediately.

If the engine is going as well as you'd like and not tapping you may well have had a lucky escape and it's gone out with the exhaust.

Depends to be honest you may never have a problem or it could have stuck itself to the piston and may or may not move and cause damage at a later date. Had an evo at work that had a cambelt jump with seemingly no problems. There supposed to be a safe engine but clearly something hit as 6 months later there were bits of valve guide on the top of a piston smacking into a spark plug causing similar damage to what yours did.

You have 2 choices really, either forget about it as she's running sweet and hope nothing happens down the line, or take the head off just for a looky and piece of mind.
Pete.
