Hi guys,

When the aircon is switched ON, should both fans run low speed CONSTANTLY?

My S16 runs as it should without the aircon but once it's switched on, the temp rises slowly until the high speed fans kick in and then struggles to bring it back down to temp.

I have noticed that when the air-con is running, both fans will run low speed for about 20 seconds, switch off for a little while (10 or so seconds) then switch back on. This constant off and on running seems to struggle to keep the engine temp where it should be, especially on our 40+degree days.

Just thought I'd mention that there is nothing wrong with the cooling system. It is the fan activation I am asking about.

Are my fans running as they should? or do I have a relay/air-con problem?

cheers

Yours is a phase 1 which may work differently to a phase 2/3. On a phase 2/3 both fans do run at half speed constantly while the air-con is on.

NB: Is the S16 in Australia the same as in the UK or is it the GTi-6 like in France?

Our S16 is the same as the UK S16 Smile

I can't imagine the Phase1 fan system being any different to the Phase2/3's though?
If my symptoms were evident on a Phase2 GTi6, would that indicate a relay or bitron unit problem?

Thanks for your help.

I'd be looking at the different relays, wiring and the bitron to make sure that all is ok. The fans should stay on.

Cheers, will start with the relays.

From memory, there are 3 relays (2 green + 1 black) inbetween the fans.

Any chance someone knows which relay is responsible for the air-con fan switch?Whistle
