Hello everyone,

I'm new to the world of 306's, i've bought my wife a 2000 HDI medderian and it was up for MOT and has failed on a 50% imbalance on the rear right hand side.

I've removed the callipers, cleaned a greased the pistons and went for a retest last night and it failed again on the same thing. its was 48% this time.

hand brake is passing ok its just the foot brake.

any info or advice would be great

Thanks
Derek

Bias Valve seized? kinked or creased brake line to one of your calipers restricting flow?

grab hold of it and move it , should spring back on own accord if not then vigorously wiggle back and forth like FOOK, spraying loads of WD40 or whatever on to it.

May have air in brake line aswell, give them a bleed Yes

try bleeding the brakes, a seized load compensator will affect both rear brakes.

try swapping the discs and pads side to side.

Bleed the brakes, then free off the bias valve.
all will be fine after that..

Right lads, went for a route round below the car for the bias valve and couldn't find it.

but i did find this at the right rear.

excuse the more iphone pic

Could this be the problem?
seems to connect the 2 sliding pins for the rear caliper.

That bracket should be all one piece, thats for sure.

Not sure it will 100% be the cause of the problem but it ain't right. You should be able to get one from a scrappy easy.

the bias valve is on the RH side just forward of where the photo is taken.

It has spring attached to it.

that wont cause any issues bar a fail of an UK MOT LOL

being a 2000 car, it may not have a load compensator as it could have EBD.

Mine Nearly failed the last MOT on this and it was the sliders in the rear calipers. The lower one on both sides was seized. I knocked them out cleaned them up with fine sand paper. Greased them back up popped it all back together and the inbalance was gone. Smile

I cant see how this is a faliure... you can only fail a car on front imbalance, rear is not measured... you could have a stupidly low amount of braking force on one side and if the other 3 all lock it is still a pass providing over 50% of wheels lock... Total brake efficiency must be more than 50 % for service brakes and 15% for hand brake. You can however fail a car for little to no brake effort if you so choose. I would take the caliper off, free up the piston, bleed it out and re fit. problem sorted. As welshpug said bias valve would effect both rears.
