Why do you use thicker oil? Wouldnt it be better to keep the oil at the right temp and use a good standard grade oil that doesnt break down? |

We use a thicker oil because it offers a higher film strength. The film strength is the most important thing, as it's what prevents metal and metal touching. IMO, the OEM stuff (Total Quartz) isn't upto the job on the S/C'd engines. I spun a big-end when using it, and it was caused becuase there wasn't enough film strength. I know Royal Purple is expensive, but I swear by it. I've never had an oil / lubrication related problem on all the engines i've used it in. Also the fact it's on Touring Car Spares indicates it's use - although you can't buy it in Halfords, it's widely used in motorsport as it's superior to most other oils. ________________________________________ Contact Details:rich@lynxpowerengineering.co.uk 07732 822546 |

Just asked as ive had lifters tap on some motors when using thicker oil. Suppose the thicker oil will resist getting squeezed out of the bearings under the increased load. |
