Hey all,

Had the 6 in at the garage today to ascertain source of the oil leak and my mechanic thinks its coming from the cam carriers.

Can anyone tell me anymore about this as to how serious it is/can be? Is it a sign of anything untoward or? Should i be worried basically?!

I did a search but it turned up barely anything on this topic.

whip it off, clean up the faces and use a beed of ATV gasket around. Tighten up hand tight and leave for an hour then torque them up. Job done

Nothing too bad then?

Know how much i can expect to pay for that sort of work?

Is it a common problem or? Doesnt appear to be covered much on this forum....so i would guess not!

It's fairly common to those who have had them off before, as the rubber seals attached to the rocker covers are pretty much 1 use and you can't by the seals by themselves.

No idea on cost of doing it as i've always done it myself

For the cam carriers themselves I'd use something like Stag Wellseal.

I wont be attempting this myself...i can barely change a wheel! LOL

But my mechanic said he cant fit me in for 3 weeks...prob wise though.

My meridian has developed a horrific knocking sound on the front drivers wheel...im hoping just a wheel bearing.

Two 306's costing me a fortune....!

The cam covers are easy and would take 30 mins tops, the cam carriers are a cam out job, so cambelt etc has to come off, very common on most pug engines, not just the XU's

Thats pretty much what my guy said with it being a bit of a pig job.

Is it ok to drive if i keep an eye on oil level as its not dropping alot?
Or should i just keep it on the drive until it goes in?
