As above, been pondering about this for the last few weeks thinking about the different type of ratios on the 5spd Diesel gearbox and the 5spd Xsi Gearbox which i have to put on the engine when it goes back into the car.

Just wondering whether anyone's experimented with the two boxes say- Diesel GB with the 5th spd xsi ratio, or the xsi box with the 5th spd diesel ratio.

I was just thinking whether it would improve on the timings made when going up through the gears??

Anyone tried this?

depending what you are using the car for. if its just a road car then leave the 6 speed in it, if its a track car then a 5 speed shorter box could improve things, but it depends on what track you are regulary doing and if its better suited

Ok, i dont have a 6spd box and don't intend on doing so, the car will progress to be used more and more on track hence why i'm using the 5spd.

Lotek, care to delve more into your outburst on a 205 box? any reason?

the 5 speed diesel box imo has too long ratios and i wouldnt fit it to a 6 engine

1.9 205 box or the 5 speed mi16/s16 box is the 5 speed box to go for.

either way requires buying a gearbox.
