I have an annoying vibration/resonance in my 6 at 3200rpm which I'm having trouble locating.

I've had the car up on jacks & checked heatshields for loose or missing bolts, pulled & pushed on everything I could reach, even replaced the centre exhaust but the noise is still there.

It's not a vibration through the steering or brakes & happens whether in or out of gear, moving or stationary, & appears to be from the front somewhere.

I did a search but couldn't find anything similar.

It's got me stuffed what it could be, so has anyone come across this before?

Cheers

I have the same thing! Like a metallic rattle when letting off or jus sitting the revs at around 3k! We located it to underneath the car to part of the exhaust but gonna run in down the local exhaust centre and see what they say !

I had the same problem with mine and it ended up being the front muffler's rubber hanger rubbing against the body.

I took it to a bunch of exhaust specialists they couldn't see anything wrong. Finaly I sat in the car and revved it for them while it was on the hoist and to my surprise there was no noise while up on the hoist...

I just decided it was the front muffler's rubber mount with no evidence really, took it off - problem solved lol

Still can't locate the source, but took off the top engine mount to see if the common cracking problem was the culprit.

Fortunately no cracks but the paint is rubbed off where the rear buffer touches the body & the mount feels a bit spongy. Think I'll replace them anyway.

Anyone know the part # for the top mount & is it the same as the Mi16 one as I have a near new one of those here (somewhere)?

Parts cd doesn't seem to list engine mounts.Angry

oh yes it does Razz

main r/h bush;

1827 23 MOUNTING BRACKT RIGHT INF

buffery thing;

1844 25 SUSPENS BUFFER RIGHT

bottom main bush;

1809 21 FLEXIBLE BUSH RIGHT DIAM 70X10-53

smaller bush in the fork;

1809 22 FLEXIBLE BUSH

transmission mounting bush;

1844 68 MOUNTING BRACKT LEFT

the only bush from the above set that matches a 405 Mi16 part number is the main lower bush, that's not to say they wont fit, but I haven't had one side by side to compare.

Thanks for the part nos Welshpug. I'll order them tomorrow.

Might as well get the exhaust rubber for the centre exhaust as well (1755 58) that ducksonetime replaced.

Is it possible to get prices from the servicebox site, or does that require a 'pay for service' fee?

Cheers

got in under the car this morning, first time its stopped rainin in the last week Angry
i left the car running as aswell as the vibration around 3,000rpm theres a funny vibrating noise at idle, so safe to say its coming from the centre box, but its not leaking or loose or touching off anything Crazy but if i just push it on it one direction around where the rubber mount is it stops and if i move it the other way it becomes more noticible, ive double checked everything near it to make sure its thight but everythings grand, its also nothing inside the box as with the car off if i hit or shake the exhaust theres no noise atall. So what i did was put a cable tie around the rubber mount to thighten it a bit and it seems to have stopped the noise at idle at least so im thinkin i need a stiffer rubber mabey??
