im new to the forum,got my gti 6 couple of months ago,theres a major whirring noise when i accelerate,mechanic reckons could b the power steering pump and not worth changing,also is my clutch supposed to b that heavy and high? any help greatly appreciated.

whirring noise could be hard to diagnose, whip your aux belt off and see if the noise has disappeared, whilst off check the feel of tensioner, idler, alternator and power steering pump pulleys, you should be able to feel for rough bearings or free play... if the noise is still there wiv the aux belt removed, could be cambelt over tensioned, will whine if thats the case.
