Fitting a fan to my Rallye, and want to run it from a switch in the car and use the rad switch as backup. Need to know what pin numbers do what please! Gather pin 2 is 12v feed, anyone know what temps pins 1 and 3 make continuity with pin 2 at? I would take it out and put it in hot water to find out, but I've only just bled the water system up...

can't find the non-a/c arrangement under the gti6 engine, got a VIN I could try?

looking under an XSI a manual one is single speed fan on at 97 off at 92, or an auto has two speed;

1264 45 TEMPERAT SWITCH 101/96-97/92DEG - BVA AND WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING.

same temp cut-in for low speed as the single speed.

I think that's the most likely one, its used on non-a/c 405 MI16's Smile

Have PM'ed one over. Any idea which pin number would be high and which low, then I can just use the low side, as I'm only using it to switch my relay if I don't notice the gauge going up. Cheers!

bloody typical, it only shows the a/c fan setup even with that VIN Doh

anyway..

According to the Haynes wiring diagram for post 97 cars with single 2 speed fan;

pin 1 is perm +, wire number B156, (Brown)

Pin 2 is Wire 150 (White) high speed to single relay pin 1, which then pulls pin 5 of the relay in, goes to resistor pin 1 along wire 151 Red, then out of resistor on pin 2 wire 161 Red (no resistance)

Pin 3 is low speed wire 152, (Brown) to resistor pin 3, then on to pin 1 of the fan along wire 161 Red.

no relay for low speed Hmm

Haha! Mmm... Perhaps I'll just have to check my switch in a temperature bath at work...

I'm wiring it all from scratch, car has none of the original loom left. Took the switch out of the rad just now and tried it in boiling water but still none the wiser. Think I might just do it on the manual switch on my dash only, I'll probably only need it once a year when I drive it to it's MOT! Cheers for your help once again!
