Right, having made the decision regarding the inlet cam and going for a stage I regrind (longer duration, same lift) i'm now presented with the choice of finding someone who can remap the Marelli 1AP ECU or fitting a piggyback like the Dastek Unichip.

The idea being to cut down the benjamin franklins, I could go all out with a DTA S60 etc but i'm not in a position to spend £500 on standalone management.

For the piggyback, what would I need? Obviously the unichip or similar, ECU to Unichip loom.. anything else? Also is the piggyback still mapped through OBD?

And similarly, would the 1AP need to be socketed before it could be mapped due to the lack of OBDII port?

ECU's confuse the crap out of me, I want the option to fit itb's at some point down the line so in the long run the piggyback seems to be the clever money. From what I gather.

Oh and before anyone says, i'm going to ask around the mapping centres around Glasgow to see who can do what. There's a Dastek about 25 miles away and Ecosse are a similar distance and a few indy's dotted about.

Cheers lads Smile

would it be wise to take it to Wayne Schofield as i think he can remap the standard ecu, and also he has had a lot of experience and good results.

Yeah, the whole "keeping costs down" includes petrol to travel too LOL

No offers on this then? I think I need to speak to Dastek to see if any Unichip can be mapped, some on eBay mapped for other cars going for about £80 at the minute...

Again, a 7-8 hour round trip isn't really an option unfortunately, I need to find someone up here that can do it Sad

Your not understanding what we are saying.
You might save £100 getting a piggyback ecu & getting it mapped.
Will it develop as much power?
Will it run properly?
Will it pass an mot?
Will the cam timing be adjusted to optimse the new map?
Will the mapper have actually seen a 6 engine before?
Will the mapper actually know what he is doing?
Dunno
Is it worth risking your money?
Will it actually work out cheaper in the long run?

Good luck!!

Cool

if it were me i'd save up the money and get it mapped by wayne or not get it mapped at all.

No offence mate but you are spending all this money on your car but can't afford 2 tanks of petrol to get it set up properly.

I'd reconsider getting throttle bodies in the future then as you will be using alot more fuel with them!

only if you drive it flat out all the time, mapped well on the right management and inlet you'll see no increase in consumption, especially if you keep the cams sensible.

I don't understand the peer pressure to take it to Wayne?

Sure he's extremely good at what he does, but does that mean he's the only person who can map a 306 properly?

I think a few of you are missing the point, if I can get it mapped equally well by someone north of the border why would I do an 8 hour round trip to see someone else?

Only time will tell i'm sure and I may end up with egg on my face. The comment about £100 in petrol was more to do with the fact that I could possibly get it done up here, within 30 miles of here, so why waste an extra £90 in petrol just to see Wayne?

This is all purely theoretical of course, it may end up with Wayne being my only option anyway, I haven't rung round the places up here yet.

edit Wayne it is then Dry LOL

Just off the phone to him, he thinks the 1AP should be sufficient to map the cams, and even itb's to an extent in the future. My main concern was I thought he was based way way down south, didn't realise he's only in Rochdale. That's less than 200 miles Doh

My parents live in Blackpool too so can tie it in with visiting them, only going to cost me £60 round trip. I take back what I said about the peer pressure LOL
