What make filter did you use?I would change that,as its easy and cheap to try Does your low oil pressure warning light go out as normal when you start car? Have you re-sealed anything on engine using gasket sealer recently? It had a genuine oil filter, i personally havent resealed anything but havent long purchased the car :/ Oil light goes out as should when started..... would severe head gasket failure cause this problem if excess oil is going into water? |

The head has a one way valve on it's oil feed that stops the oil draining out of the head when the engine is off. It's been known for this to clog up and starve the head of oil. It's a head off job to sort it out unfortunately, but it's worth trying some engine flush to see if that cleans it out. ________________________________________ Rich |

Mine sounded like a severe top end rattle when it was actually a spun big end bearing..________________________________________ Get used to seeing the yellow one !!!Team 330™ Team "no front end or engine" Team "LIMITED EDITION" I live for the 306 sticker Team 0-60 in 6.44 & standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph all with std engine 203bhp Corolla T-Sport daily driver stealthier than Kwai Chang Caine |

Yeah, mine too, although you'd expect to see oil pressure and temperature issues (along with crap running!) with a spun bearing. The normal oil pressure, the OP's observed oil starvation in the head and the lack of mention of any other running issues suggests the bottom end is okay. ________________________________________ Rich |

I once had a loud top end rattle after a spirited drive, thought the belt had slipped a tooth or something but it disappeared after a couple of easy miles later Probably oil starvation or something but not a peep out of it since ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

Best to get a new one, get a sizeable self tapper and screw it into the valve then pull it out with pliers, this will then remove the valve from the head. Normally you will find paper from the oil filter clogged up in there, pain as to fix the problem will take minutes it's just the heart axe to get to it.
