hi all just put new box in my gti-6 had to change the top gear arm over from my old box onto this one as they were different but everything lined up fine. now since its gone back together i cant get 5th-6th and reverse as the gear stick wont allow me to move over enough and when im in 1st its sitting in the 3rd position on the gear stick. am i right to believe that top gear lever is out cause when i was playing with old box with the lever off it drops down a bit and allowed it to move over a bit then locked into place and seemed to move spot on with the other lever on the back of the box so im guessing if i remove top lever and repeat this on box on car should it solve my problem. it seems that the top gear linkage needs to come over ½ inch to allow it to be in correct position for 1st.. sorry if this doesnt make much sense been on 4 days with the change between work and im goosed ha ha any info is much appreciated thanks jay

your ENTER button seems to be broken Huh?

sounds like the shaft dropped down when you took the arm off and is now in the wrong place, you need to take the top arm odd and drop the shaft down, then turn it to the right position and refit the arm.

pot luck whether you can do it without taking the gearbox apart.

I take it the new box had been in a 205? that's the only reason the arm would be different.

hi mate this is wat i thought the problem is. i managed to change position on the old box by allowing it to drop down and move it over and lift back up and lock it in... takes a few wiggles but does go. i think the lad i got box off tried to fit it in another 1.8 or 2.0 306 xsi or summit like this.. hence the different arm.. thanks for the info
