Since changing the clutch/disconnecting the battery on my 6, i have had a rather erratic idle, before i go any further, she only does it when temp gauge is 80 degrees and above.

The revs are hunting between 850 and 2200 rpm and when changing gear the revs 'hang on'

Firstly i did the usual check and clean the stepper motor and check for vacuum leaks

then i bent over and got shafted £90 for new stepper, reset ecu and still no joy.

i replaced the ecu coolant temp sensor, reset management, problem still remains

Lastly, i had a diagnostic check and they could not find any faults, they told me as the ecu is self learning, then i should put some more miles on it and it 'should' cure itself. I have done exactly this and guess what, problem is still there.

what puzzles me is, the car was running sweet before i disconnected the battery, i would also like to add that i have had this prob on a few XSi's ive had and usually once the stepper and housing has been cleaned the problem disappears

Anyone any ideas???

How long are you leaving it disconnected for when doing this?

I would try leaving it off a bit longer. 30mins to an hour and see if that makes a difference.

just a thought. my engine's wiring loom is now 13 years old, when i changed the clutch i obviously had to move the wiring out of the way, i mean lets face it its not exactly 'roomy' in a 6's bay

anyway is it possible that the wiring may be slightly corroded due to age and then with me moving them about i have damaged a wire???
