anybody know anything about these gearboxes? im after some advice with the release bearing.

ive installed a pedal box in my 309 to suit the hydraulics on the ml5t box, however even with a pedal which has good feel (quite firm) the clutch doesnt disengage. im just wondering if ive installed the release bearing correctly. anyway to check? cheers

The release bearing just pushes straight into the clutch and then stays there with an expanding metal clip. Don't try to take it back out again after its fitted as I think that is why mine died after only 4.5k miles. The bearing is a pretty simple system.

i cant measure the original as i dont have one. I dont know how id measure the original anyway?
i was going to try and put a puller on backwards to push the arm in just so i could check its working? dont want to damage it though. im pretty sure there is still air in the system, i just cant get it out.

They don;t compare to the std size which is quite large, I guess around .8, You can just about get the .7's to work but you need the right leverage and extend the rod slightly too

0.8 would that not give less pressure than 0.625? Or is it to do with travel? Ive managed to get it to almost work. Its like its slipping the clutch

less pressure, more fluid moved, more slave cylinder travel for m/c travel.

ghey. didnt think about it that way.

do you think i will have any luck if i manage to get all the air out? ive got it to disengage partly, but its still slightly gripping, a bit like when you slip the clutch when pulling off.

you can tell the difference because when you let off the clutch all together the car kangaroos when turning it over, when the clutch is pressed it only moves a few mm forwards once and then it just turns over as if the clutch isnt engaged.

alter the pivot? on the pedal? i cant do this as the pedals built into the box with a pole. I can move the position of the master cylinder forwards or backwards (closer to the pedal or further away) if that will help?

aa u mean the pivot where the master cylinder joins to the pedal? if i move it up (floor mounted pedal box) then should the pedal move a smaller distance for the same amount of cylinder travel?

miles i owe u a drink

mei i owe you 2 drinks now.

i took the pedal out, and drilled another hole a bit further up the pedal. Refitted the pedal and master cylinder to the hole and it works Smile ive not had change to drive or test it with my foot yet (no seats lol) but pushing it by hand its relatively easy and disengages the clutch fully.

many thanks guys, i can now get on with mapping the beast.
