So, I've had my GTI-6 basically 3 weeks and...

Whilst waiting at a zebra crossing in a service station some guy inexplicably reverses straight into the side of me (he literally cannot have checked any mirrors whatsoever as I was practically directly behind him).

I'm planning on going to a body shop to ask them for a quote but I was wondering how much you guys think this would cost to repair:

Main damage is the scratch and a dent (hopefully should just pop out but don't yet know whether there is any structural damage or not).

He can't have been going very fast and his car is literally untouched so hopefully won't be too bad!

Please let me know what you guys think,

Thanks!

P.S: I'm the loser wearing bright blue trackies.

Don't go through insurance as they will automatically write the car off as it's damage to the rear quarter.

It will need blending into the front passenger door and rear bumper.

Costing how much do you think?

Why would they write it off if the quote for repair was say £500?

Looking at it again, they probably wouldn't. It's not that bad, some areas of it may even polish out, but insurers see rear quarter damage as a labour intensive job and may try to mug you off. TBH there is no point, ask for the idiot who hit you to pay, as it will raise your premiums for next year as well as his if you claim on the insurance.

Take the car to 3 or 4 local places that have a good reputation and have them write you a quote. Go back to the bloke saying it's in both your best interests to settle privately and see what he says.

If the person who did it is paying for it, then go to the garage that you think will do the best job regardless of cost.

Surely cost is not an issue in this instance?
