Hi all, I recently got my GTi6 from sussitout, Mark, who mentioned that the car did a little smoke when started and I have noticed this, but it soon disappears, anyway, I did an oil change today and the coolant started bubbling away = head gasket failure? ________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

quite likely, unless there's a leak in the cooling system causing it to have an air lock.I would get it sorted sooner rather than later as leaking coolant into the bores will wash away the oil, and accelerate bore + ring wear. also potential to damage engine bearings if the oil mixes with the coolant. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

REALLY bad news I just got the car and had no reason to doubt it not being tip top like, really gutted about this. I'm guessing a repair bill that is taking the car off the road for a while *cries*________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

Just spoken to Dave and suggested he to talk to Carl (Leicester) who has done quite a lot of work on it. Never messed with it myself only the rear wiper assembly replacement and a fans senor. Have to say it was in pretty good nick the day I sold it to Dave and at less than £1.7k what can one expect? There will always be some issues. Just have to deal with them. I spent thousands on that car including thousands, over the years, on the engine! Plus even my Rallye sold to that guy in Wales had the bloody heater matrix go within a couple of weeks or months. Never had any 'bubbling' issues and he took five years of receipts (less last years as with accountant) with him. One of the last things I said was don't thrash it until you have changed the belt, service it etc. This was a few weeks ago and Durham is a distance from Hereford. Christ the amount of work I did on that car - don't we all do on these old cars - if we want to keep them on the road in good nick. ________________________________________ White 6: 2003 > Grumpychef in 2009; Diablo 6 2003 > Dafydd in 2004 > Yeomans > where is it now? Hopefully I can get it sorted without too much hassle, I'm going to give Carl a bell tomorrow morning, you all rate him highly and Mark can't speak highly enough of him! Luckily, like you say, I didn't thrash it until I got a chance to service it. So that's all the fluids done now, just the head to sort haha! *cries* :-p ________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

Hello again, had a test today which definitely confirms that the head had gone. Such a shame, it's a lovely little car and unfortunately, at present I'm relying on it for commuting so VERY careful is going to have to suffice ________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

don't do it, you will render that engine scrap and cost you a LOT more in the long run.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

I don't have a choice mate, I have no other way of getting to work etcI'm in a pretty crappy place at present, was about to order my belts etc for the cam change and then this. I've hardly any fun with the car so far So now I'm having to try and find the money that I don't have to try and sort it. What exactly should I be looking to replace when sorting the head? Would it be worth trying to find another head and just refurb and swap? ________________________________________ Red Rallye - Rolling "restoration"Wishbone Polybushes available |

you need the gasket, a skim + pressure test, and head bolts, plus belt kit and water pump, check the rad too.really, just borrow a car or get the bus. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

inlet yes, there are no rockers on this engine.camshaft cover seals are bonded on and cannot be replaced, but if they leak then a bead of decent RTV will suffice. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Nightmare. To think of all that bloody engine work this car has been through already only for the head gasket to go - again. Really sorry for you mate. The engine has only been perfect the past two years or so. Took me that long to get it on top of it. It was only the minor maintenance isues that were getting a bore. Christ that car must be jinxed.________________________________________ White 6: 2003 > Grumpychef in 2009; Diablo 6 2003 > Dafydd in 2004 > Yeomans > where is it now?
