Hey all,

Just got back from fitting my replacement bonnet which was a piece of p*ss by the way. Very good condition with no stonechips or dents so quite pleased with that.

However, when i looked under the car i noticed a small fresh patch of oil...took some photos..any idea where its coming from??

The sump itself looks dry. Just thinking slightly behind looks all wet, hoping just a bolt loose? Problem is the thing is so damn low at the front i cant get under to check for play in the bolts! LOL

Answers on a postcard...!?

looks like engine oil, could be crnk or cm sels, or rocker cover.

Hmm, does it look like its coming anywhere specific from those photos?

That whole area looks like it could be leaking.

I should have wiped it clean and drove it home then looked again. I'll do that next time.

Are any of those possibilities bad bad news or easily repairable?

id say the best thing would be to clean it all off if you can and either jack up the car or put it on a lift and run the engine while you watch underneath to see if you can locate where the oil is coming from Wink as the oil is everywhere so that makes it hard to find the leak

PM Sent,

i had a leak that looks like this but the cam seals were fine, the cam carriers are ok, rocker covers are weeping but no where near enough to cause the amount of oil you can see in the picture above.

while under the car i noticed the vacum pump had oil on the bottom of it, the oil was running down the back of the head then running along the head towards the timing beltand finaly running down the back of the engine.

i opened the vacum pump and the seals had shrunk and gone hard, i replaced these, cleaned up the pump and now no more oil leak.

if your seals are gone the part numbers are.

455605 large seal
455607 small seal

PM Replied!

Cheers for your help - but it would appear to be a brake fluid thing.

Happy Motoring!

Had it in the garage i normally use. Guy said it appears to be coming from the cam carrier.

So it needs resealing. Apparantly its a belt off job so takes a bit of time. Was going to get it done in december but couldnt get the car down there as i was snowed in at work.
So said id get it in for jan and havent yet been in touch with them.

Trying to get a quote from Mechanical_repairs for this job as its notoriously hard to get my cars in at the place i normally use so im going to see if Carl is reasonably priced.

Thinking about treating it to a Nissens alloy rad too seeings as its christmas. LOL
