I've heard there is an official sump baffle kit available for the 6/Rallye, does anyone on here happen to have some decent pics of the kit or better still some of it installed in the sump?

Any help much appreciated.

have a look at DJmini's thread, (think he's on here as djturbo) he has a genuine Peugeot Sport kit in his engine.

I can copy it, but I'm not doing the same for mine as I think I can better the design. However I won't be doing anymore than just the one as they are an absolute pain to manufacture. The Peugeot Sport kit requires the sump to to be heavily modified for it to fit anyway so its not just £300 for the kit either, as it has to have the cast ally baffle plate cut out and threaded ally bosses welded in to mount the new baffle kit on. That's going to add another couple of hundred quid to the job easily.

By all accounts I'm wasting my time as nobody is experiencing issues with surge but I'll taking no chances with my engine and my labour costs me nothing.

Im looking into baffling my sump a bit extra aswell. Although dont have the equipment for tig welding the sump. I did however come across this idea on a VW site.

Obviously it would need some more work to stop there being a big gap in it, but something along these lines, with some trap doors all round, could it be effective enough to work?

Yes mate, thats pretty similar to my plan, but it won't be welded to the windage tray. It will also incorporate gates to allow oil to reach the pick-up but not flow away from it. The idea I had given to me by a customer who prepares classic F1 cars and makes beautiful big wing sumps to protect priceless classic engines from deadly surge. It's very simple like most great designs but pretty much garantees a steady supply of oil under almost any conditions (except car on it's roof) Couple this to the Accusump I have and I should have no future worries about oiling. It's temperature, crashing and over-revving I need to worry about from now on.

You see no reason as to why fabricating something off the windage tray wouldnt work then? With the right trapdoors in it, there is no reason it shouldnt work well enough to keep the pickup supplied with oil? From my point of view it seems the easiest way for me to tackle anything.

Im guessing there is no real difference to it being mounted to the windage tray and hanging, compared to being fixed into the sump.

No problem at all, it's a better idea in some ways as it's easier to make sure it all fits around the pick-up, I'm just approaching the same problem from a different angle. I would'nt like the look of all that MIG spatter on the welds though, one piece of that going through the gears of an oil pump at 8K revs could easily shatter it. I hope he cleans it all up propperly before it all goes back together Wink

The original windage tray should provide a lovely base to work from as it's solid as hell. Unfortunately it's got a huge gap around the outer edge which allows oil to surge up the walls of the crank-case under high Gs. If you do decide to add to the existing setup, I would take the time to weld on an infil strip which closely follows the contours of the block and is securely welded to the windage tray all the way round. The last thing you want is vibration fatiguing your joints and having chunks of metal creating havoc in your sump! Shock
