I've got the old engine removed from the track car bolted to a stand in the garage. It's completely bare just head and block and would like to remove the head then strip the block ready for a rebuild - not by me I might add.

Does anyone here have a basic guide for stripping it down, had a quick search but didn't find anything.

I know I could just send if off for someone else to do just fancy getting my hands dirty and having a go, plus it doesn't matter how long it takes.

I'm sure there's plenty of you who could do it with yours eyes shut so any help much appreciated.

if you can manage to strip it down, then you'll be fine putting it back together Thumbs up

haynes manual covers stripping an iron block XU engine down.

you'll not need any "special" tools to strip an engine, only thing that you may need to add to your toolkit is a long T55 bit to undo the headbolts, and a decent breaker bar.

Get some tupperware boxes and a marker pen to label up all the fixings and little parts etc. Grab your camera and photograph everything, it's amazing how quick memory fades and that can leave you scratching your head when it comes to re-assembly.

+1 I didn't do this on mine and now have a lot of extra nuts and bolts left over, even though it's all back together and running like a dream LOL Blink

+1 But seeing how much of a pain in the arse it is to remember where it all goes 12 months on, I'd definitely reccommend to anyone starting a strip down that they take the time to make a few pictures at least, I wish I did now.
