One of mine weeps slightly. I spoke to a techie at the dealership last week, he said to put a little silicone on, let it go off partly then fit. Just reading over this thread I'm not sure silicone is the right thing to be using, mind.

Start with the middle bolt and work outwards towards the ends. Do them up 'just enough', don't overtighten. He didn't suggest a particular torque setting.

I'm yet to actually do this, waiting for after the snow so I can't vouch for it yet.

Someone else has told me that not all covers are the same, possibly a difference between phases. I don't knoe if that's true but if you have got a second hand set try and check they are identical to the ones coming off.

Well the old ones had a bolt head on the back one where its not actually a bolt head just a blank, the ones i have the back one does not have this blank nut and seems the only noticable differance, my engine is from the VTS and afaik the covers i now have are from the 6 engine. I dont think they are any different enough to worry about.

The torque setting is 7 lbf iirc.

High temp engine silicone is ok to use, isnt that what RTV is made from?

There is a raised part on the covers which stops you overtightening theseWink

Hand tight is tight enough, don't overtighten as you risk stripping the threads out of the cam carrier,or squashing the raised part of coversThumbs down

Sure i know all that kev and i dont ever tighten anything over the haynes torque settings.

So do i apply some rtv or are they ok left alone when being second hand and already been squished a bit?
