How long is it advisable to keep half-filled bottles of brake fluid?

I know ideally you only ever start a new bottle, but I've got two half-filled bottles of RBF660 which were first used a month ago, and it's expensive stuff! Is it still good to use? It's been stored with the lids on tight.

I appreciate it won't be as good as new but then it's a 306 not an Evo, so I'm not convinced it'll matter too much.

Tried searching but to no avail, and if I'm going to take advice from any old nobhead on the internet, I'd rather it was one of you guys Wink

keep it air tight as it is hygroscopic and will absorb water out of the surounding air.should be fine for a few years.imo

Yeah "they say" you shouldn't store it - although once I had a guy in Halfrauds trying to tell me that I couldn't even keep new unopened bottles at home. (really? how long have these been on the shelf in your store then? do you throw them away after 2 months? LOL)

The trouble is the more race-oriented fluid tends to absorb water more quickly, but I would say seal them into an airtight container with a few dessicant sachets as well, keep them indoors rather than in a shed and I can't see how they won't keep for a while.

I don't normally keep it for more than 6 months, but then something is bound to need bleeding in that time. I tend to keep it for filling dry systems, as it's all going to come out again during the bleeding process.

Well that's a fair point, I was planning on using the open ones first so as you say much of it'll get cost.

It's only been open a couple of months max, so I'm sure it'll do the job.

Loving the Halfords line, muppets.

Cheers people.

if you have two open half used bottles of the same age I'd stick them in one, minimise the air space in the bottle.

306's need brakes as much as an evo do Wink

To some extent they still absorb through the packaging, especially on the cheap halfords own stuff, so he's not just having you on.

Oh don't start, you'll have everyone wondering wherever they got their brake fluid from, how old was the stock... Unsure

They ought to start printing Best Before dates on them! LOL
