Right just need a little advice, Rallye been fine for ages, but the last few days it starts and runs on three cylinders, after a little blip of the throttle the engine runs fine on all cylinders. Thought it could be coil pack but, when I went out to look just now, started the car from cold, and it started and ran fine, opened the header cap on the rad and the coolant pored and pored out. In my eyes it seems that Head Gasket has failed and is pressurising the cooling system. Gonna do a compression test tomorrow, and maybe a sniff test.

Any ideas from anyone would be warmly accepted, I know its hard making diagnosis over the net without seeing the car.

Thanks in advance

P.S. I'm quite handy with the tools, but any advice on locking the cams while the head is off would be great too.

Yes, that's probably the head gasket.

Compression test will tell you, it's the simplest way to diagnose it tbh. Good luck!
