just wondering if i should stick with my 5 speed 1.6 box or change to different box, as i'm going to be hitting higher speeds

VTS or 1.9 box seems to be the best option, as i still have the steering lock but gain the high speeds, so i'm not red lining in 5th on track

Yeah with an SC in the 205 im sure you will be hitting top speed at most tracks so well worth going for a longer ratio box Yes

I presume the VTS box has a maximum speed similar to the GTI6 box but with less gears? If thats the case i would be tempted for that one although there may be better benefits of a 1.9 box Unsure

for fear of getting flamed have you thought about 1.9 diesel box. mate has one in his 2.0 8v turbo. will find out what speeds it does at say 4k in every gear for you but he loves it and said its much better to drive than his 6 speed. just and idea.

25 mph between gears, where the 6 speed box is 20, but as you say, you need to be able to give it right lock LOL

Mi/xsara box isn't far off either, though a fair gap up to 5th.

yeah, bit of a jump into 5th on the vts

hopefully the power and lightness of the car wont cause it an issue,

as i have known working 1.9 box in my garage that i took out of the car to fit the 1.9, i will try that,

and see how i get on, it's even "slightly" lower reving on a cruise too Smile

well it does about 150 at 6k so 7k should do about 175.

every 1000 rpm in fith is worth 25mph. as long as there is enough power to pull it all the way then it should top out at about 175mph. mate turbo can't pull all the way to the redline in fith. gets close though.

ok. just an idea. in other gears it pulls great but 5th is pretty long. 306 hdi is even longer.
