Hi guys,

changed my clutch yesterday but didn't manage to get some new clutch arm bushes before we started the job. I just checked it today and there is some play in the arm.

Is it possibe to change these without removing the gearbox again? I looks like you can remove them from the top after you take the clutch arm itself off on Servicebox, but I'm not 100% sure. IIRC there are two bushes, one is right down inside the box and the other is where the arm passes through the top. Is it a case of only being able to do the top one with the gearbox in place? I can't justify taking the box off just to do the bushes.

Its a 5 speed gearbox BTW. Servicebox picture:

the box has to come off to change them.

the top one can't be changed in situ due to the locking tabs it has that cannot be pressed in with the clutch release shaft in place.

buggery, I will have to do it myself when I get the chance. How will worn bushes affect the operation of the clutch?

depends how worn really, they can create more drag and wear the cable out prematurely as well as stick and cause the clutch to slip, or if they have a lot of play they can damage the release bearing.

though that is the worst case scenarios, it'll probably be fine LOL

Mine was hard to get into gear with loose bushes. The previous owner changed the clutch at 90,000 miles and didn't chabge them so I did.

Cheers welshpug, its not too bad TBH. There's only a few mm's of movement in it. I may sort them out if I get the time, it should be easier for us to remove the gearbox this time.

Ah, I've noticed mine has been slightly harder to get into gear now I've put the new clutch in. I guess it will sort my problem as well.
