Pretty much the same in top gear though.

5 speed is lighter and has stronger gears iirc. You also have full right lock which is nice. Not much in it really, but ¾/5 in the 6 box is lush when you are on it. I don't miss having 6 gears tbh.

my 5 speed ZX 16v used to keep up with a Rallye quite well Ninja

top gear is about 150 rpm lower in the 6 speed unit, 1st and 2nd are near identical, as mentioner, 3-4-5 are pretty nice in the 6 speed unit, but I love being able to turn right Laugh my ass off

also they are stronger in 3-4th as the teeth are deeper.

Time changing gear kind of negates the point of having 6 speed against the same engine and gearbox combo. Wish I had a decent length 5th in the current gearbox. 70 @ 3k - it should be 2-2.5k I think.

Then again George doesn't need to be doing 180 in a 205 Laugh my ass off

2nd on a Xsara Vts 5 speed box is the best part of 10Mph shorter than on a 6 speed box so I wouldnt say "almost identical".

Having tried both on a gti 6 engine I would say the 6 speed is much better suited to the engine for road use Imo. Track use maybe different

hi
I've broken my original transmission BE36.
While waiting for parts, Be4 wore gearbox.

Never satisfied with the car had slowed down any more.
Acceleration was worse than I wanted to do better.

I think that the best of the original transmission

Do you understand what I said?

Before I got my GTi6 I had a series 1 XSi. The five-speed in the XSi was alright. First was too short and fifth was a little too tall. The 6's six is nicer to use and better matches it's engine. I'd have first and second a wee bit shorter but nothing to write home about.
