My powerflex lower engine mount (the sort that comes in two halfs) has been destroyed and now i've got a group n mount i need to fit but it is on its own ie not pressed into the bracket. I need to fit this on urgently: could i use a long bolt and nuts and an assortment of plates/washers to press it in? Or is the force required too great? I tried hammering it in but it just wont go in straight. Any help appreciated

you could do that yes, you could use some big flat sheets and wind it in using enough force. did a rear trailing arm bush on an audi this way but a press is much better. i have totally solid mounts and had to get about 5tho skimmed off my mount to be able to press it in LOL

don't hammer it, it won't go in straight

whip the bracket off and visit a local garage, seeing as the old one is already out they might just fit the new one for a few beer tokens Smile

and people wonder why I say the powerflex ones are a bit naff Whistle

I deep froze my bush and acetylene torched the mount, gave enough slack to tap it in.

Lol what a f*cking head f*ck..

Never have i felt vibration as severe as this..

Wood is NOT an ideal material for engine mounts. I don't know how those hardcore mother f*ckers out there cope with solid mounts in their track cars. Intense bros...

Anyway, I tried installing the group N mount I had lying around.

(Timber type R mount on the left, Group N mount on the right)

But it turned out to be impossible without taking the bracket out and using a bench press. I tried bunging up a clamp using a big bolt/nut and old bearings as washers/spacers but it just wouldn't go in straight and I need this car to get to work tomorrow. After about 10 attempts and a stiff neck - I ended up doing this.

Rubber sheets cut into a long strip and wound onto the shaft from the powerflex mount.

haha this is probably the best thing i've ever made in my life.

Laugh my ass off you crazy german, get the mount whipped off, it's only 3 bolts (plus shaft locking pins) LOL seriously, you could have had it off and down at a garage to press in by now LOL

its 4 bolts Rikky, 16mm heads Geek

agreed though, I don't get why people bother trying to do these on the car!

yes the driveshaft has to come out, its not that hard though, 35mm hub nut and one BJ pinch bolt, bucket to catch the gear oil, done in 20 minutes last week.
