Hi.

My mates gti-6 managed to shear a cam pulley about two weeks ago. He bought a new head and put it on today, aswell as doing the gasket, water pump, timing belt, head bolts etc

The car fires up and will run with a lot of throttle but wont idle. With no throttle it will run then cut out after 1 second. He took the plugs out and said they look very rich. I doubt its a sensor because the car ran fine 2 weeks ago.

Any ideas why its not starting?

Cheers

did you replace inlet manifold gasket, could be leaking air into manifold?

mine did this after a head swap and turned out to be a damaged head meant no compression on no1 cylinder... just a thought but they also do this when the valves are bent Sad
first thing i would do is re check your belt timing ic correct as the bottom pully is very prone to de laminating causing incorrect bottom end timing. this could well be your problem if all sensors etc are plugged in. If timing is spot on i would do a compression test on all 4.
