I am looking to get some trumpets for my bike body conversion.

Does anyone know a place that sells them!? Having a nightmare trying to source some. I think I may need to get some custom made.

Also, can you buy sleeved ones which go inside the body or do you have to connect them with a silicone hose?

Any help much appreciated! I wanted to do it all in one go, but may just get it running with filters on the end of the TB's and do the trumpets/backing plate/sausage filter later on. I am too impatient LOL

Cheers.

Just using a standard manifold which has been cut down. Has had some extra pipe welded to the cut areas to recduce the amount of silicone hose needed so its a bit more sturdy. The rear of the bodies then butt up against the manifold inside the join.

You can buy trumpets from Jenvey too, chances are they have a size that would match your bike bodies inlet flange with little or no modifying as well.

there tends to be no flange at all on bike bodies, Colin's trumpets are tapered to fit just into the body, and you secure them in place with a grub screw.

got any pics?

Thanks for the info guys. Found a guy on ebay who can make some custom tapered ones, just have to see how it goes.

Here is a pic of them at the moment. From a GSXR1000, approx 48mm>>42mm.

Not everyone is a fan of bike bodies, but thought I would give it a go!

Get them painted before they go anywhere!

You running them off the standard ECU then like Yanni did? Standard injectors? Using a plenum for MAP? And what are you going to do for filters on the trumpets? Individual ones or a panel filter?

Questions questions questions LOL

Not sure if I can be bothered with painting them! If I do decide to then it will just be the manifold and in black.

I am going to use aftermarket management. Trying to keep costs down so I will be going with a version of Megasquirt.

Yes standard fuel rail and injectors will be used.

I may just put them on as they are for now, and do tweaks later when trumpets etc are on, I am pretty impatient, but will have to see how quickly I can source things.

Eventually it will have trumpets with a backing plate behind, and a sausage/panel filter attached to it.

No idea about the MAP thing yet, Im unsure exactly of what sensors will be needed! Going to try and use standard loom with a plug adaptor for the ecu. A lot of this is over my head at the moment!

A starting point for working out the length and diameter of intake runners can be gained from the following equations. In a Helmholtz Resonance system (one with runners connected to a common plenum), US-based engineering guru David Vizard suggests that a runner length of 17.8cm at 10,000 rpm makes a good starting point. (In this context, "runner length" refers to the distance from the inlet valve to the plenum chamber.) Add to this length 4.3cm for each 1000 rpm less that the system is being tuned for. Tuning for peak torque (not peak power) is the norm, and so if the engine were being tuned for 4000 rpm, a runner length of 43.6cm would be required. You can see that for an averagely-sized engine bay, the longer the runner that can be fitted in, the better!

One equation for runner diameter is to multiply the engine volume in litres by the engine's volumetric efficiency, then by the tuned rpm, then divide this sum by 3330. The final figure is square rooted, giving the runner diameter in inches. As an example, a 5 litre engine with an 80 per cent efficiency (expressed as 0.8) and tuned for 3000 rpm, will have a runner diameter of 1.9 inches, or 48 mm. The volume of the plenum should be around 80 per cent of the volume of the cylinders to which it is connected.

IIRC Sandy Brown aims for around 370mm from the back of the valve, which is 70mm longer than the rule above suggests.

Found a man who is going to make some trumpets up for me with tapered ends to fit into the throttle bodies, and with a flared other end like the jenveys etc have, with a small hole for a grub screw to attach a back plate to.

Will be around £25 each he said.
