Hi all.I've spent hours searching on FAQ and general forum to solve this one so hope someone can advise me! I've posted on Engine and Electrical forum as not sure but if admin want to have on just one that's fine by me, Thanks
My car is 306, petrol, 1.8-16 valve
Basically I've got 2 problems:
Prob 1)sometimes I can start the engine easily (hot or cold, usually after ECU reset) and sometimes not (hot or cold) after many attempts. (see below for more info)
Prob 2)there is a drain from batt (brand new btw) as it will go from full to flat in 36 hours (see below for more info)
Ref Prob 1) sometimes it will try to fire for a split second but not run. I have reset ECU many times following the wait 3 min/disconnect batt (positive) for 15-30 seconds then reconn batt procedure. She will usually then start but tickover is lumpy (without acc pedal input) at 400-600 rpm for about 50 to 60 seconds (every time, hot or cold) then the revs will rise to a smooth 1200-1300 for 10 seconds then start to hunt badly (almost like choke is running) at between 700 and 1200 and then revs drop right down to 300-500 and she cuts out. Sometimes I can restart her straight away (for up to 12 times is my record) but usually it is 2-5 times, after that she will just turn over on the starter and sometimes fire for a split second, but usually not fire at all or start. I have fitted: new plugs, new injector relay (Peugeot OEM brand new),removed and cleaned stepper motor, throttle body (fully removed both and cleaned with inj/carb cleaner), checked rubber pipes from these to head, cleaned elect sensor contacts on TB and IAC and water pump sensors. All connectors plugged back in correctly. I have tried disconnecting sensors when running with no result.
When she is running on the road she seems to run well, no hesitation or backfires or power loss thro the rev range up to rev limiter. But as the tickover drops down she will hunt again.
I am flummoxed by the fact she won't restart after running. It's almost like the fault/s always there and corrupting the ECU to not start again next time.
Another thing I've noticed is the coil rail seems to be bowed and is not making full contact to the head in one corner (nearest to the connector end) would this cause problems??
Could this relate to Prob 2 ???
Any thoughts please????
Ref Prob 2)I have got a new battery and keep her charged with a smart charger. I have removed and cleaned earths: batt-gearbox one, 3 others in engine comp and one under the steering column in driver footwell. Still draining tho; eg dropped 1 volt from 13v to 12v in 12 hours today.
Could this relate to Prob 1 ??
Any thoughts please????
