I'm just about to lift the engine out of my 6 and I have followed he excellent guides on here on what to do. The only problem that I can see is the the long driveshaft, I've seperated the ball joints on both sides and got the intermediate bearing out no worries with a little persuasion(!) on the long driveshaft, and the driveshaft is clear of the box and i've removed the speedo-drive, but there is no way that I can pull the driveshaft back all the way through the hole in the engine mount. Will it get in the way and jam up when I try to lift the engine out? Or do I just beat it as I lift the engine up? Cheers guys!

have you undone the 2 11mm nuts and twisted them round so the feet are away and clear. the driveshaft should then pull out maybe with little persuasion

the shaft will be getting caught on the little rotating tabs. once tightened they secure the shaft. loosen them and check they are turned unto the grooves of the mount housing so they are free from the hole and the shaft should pull through. i have just done this again yesterday when refitting shafts/box seals etc

Yup, all done, and I've managed to get the driveshaft out the gearbox, and the speedo drive off the driveshaft as well. Im just worried that I can't lift the engine out cause the driveshaft is still running through the engine mount because it's far too long to pull all the wa out without taking the wheel off, undoing the 35mm nut and hitting the driveshaft out the hub.

I know the bit you mean, I've got the bearing out of there and can mouve it about 8 inches or so by pulling the wheel away from the car, just want to make sure that I can go ahead and remove the engine and the driveshaft wont get in the way.

That will add like 20 minutes to the job (providing you have a 35mm socket).

Just take the cyclone off
Put the spare on
Lower the car on to the ground
undo the 35mm nut
remove drive shaft.

Or if you have a helper you can take the wheel off but the wheel bolts back and have a helper press the brake. I wouldn't just put it in gear as the nuts can be quite tight.

Genius! The spare has got a hole in the middle so I can get to the hub nut. Good plan, cheers!
