Changed the coolant 2 months ago with no issues til now.

only when stood in traffic the temp will gentle increase off the scale with fans kicking in low and hi. once moving the temp will come back down.

now will it be thermostat if fans are working?

basically idling for a while the temp increases as normal......but does not stop fans kick in make no diffrence. but once moving again temp will drop back to normal.

i have seen the gauge go to the red! however luckily no further but i imagine left idling it would increase further.

what else do you want to know?

its a gti6

Have you checked the coolant level? The system might need bleeding also. I don't want to scare you too much but my first gti 6 did this just before the head gasket went.

Have you bleed the Heater Matrix ? its a little bike tyre cap along near the bulkhead a few inches right of the brake reservior, that sorted mine out when i had your symptoms.

How can you say you have no signs of HG failure if the car is overheating , granted it could be a million other things but it is definately a sympton of exhaust gasses entering the coolant.

Try a bleed on all 3 locations first ( heater matrix, top of thermostat , and end of rad ).

Next make sure you have warm air in the cabin from the heaters and obviously make sure you have enough coolant.

Then i would move on to the thermostat, could be stuck slightly closed. Remove and boil it in a sauce pan and make sire it opens right up.

Last but not least, compression test/sniffer test.
